Research advisor at Mid Sweden University’s Grants and Innovation Office
Mittuniversitetet, Avdelningen för Forsknings- och utbildningsstöd
Grants and Innovation Office, Mid Sweden University
The Research Advisors at Mid Sweden University’s Grants and Innovation Office (GIO) support the university’s researchers in matters related to external research funding, thereby contributing to strong research environments. The unit is part of the Division for Research and Educational Support (FUS), where around forty skilled colleagues with broad experience and expertise provide support in areas such as research funding and innovation, internationalisation, pedagogical development, and lifelong learning.
Are you interested in supporting researchers in matters related to external research funding – from informing about funding opportunities and strengthening researchers’ knowledge, to actively assisting in the preparation of applications? Do you have your own research experience from a university or higher education institution, and now want to contribute to creating strong research environments at Mid Sweden University? Then we are looking for you to strengthen and develop Mid Sweden University’s Grants Office!
Job description
The Research Advisors at Mid Sweden University strengthen the university’s research environments through strategic advice and active support that increases access to external research funding. We inform and strengthen researchers’ knowledge in matters relating to research funding, and provide active support throughout the application process.
Specific duties include:
- monitoring current calls and trends among national funders (with focus on the Swedish Research Council, Formas, Forte, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, the Wallenberg Foundations, Vinnova) as well as international funders (with focus on the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon Europe),
- disseminating information on calls and trends to the university’s researchers, both through general communication channels and through personal contact with individual researchers,
- organizing workshops and other activities to inform about funding opportunities and to provide training in grant writing,
- supporting researchers throughout the entire pre-award phase with tailored support – from critical review to active participation in drafting applications,
- supporting university management in strategic issues concerning research funding and related policy developments, with particular focus on the Swedish research councils and the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
The role also carries responsibility for, and significant opportunities to influence, the development of Mid Sweden University’s Grants Office.
Your background
You have personal experience of research in a field relevant to Mid Sweden University and current knowledge of research conditions and research environments at universities or higher education institutions.
We are looking for someone who:
- has a PhD in a subject relevant to Mid Sweden University,
- has very strong oral and written communication skills in both Swedish and English.
It is an advantage if you:
- have experience of applying for research funding, preferably from Swedish research councils and/or the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation,
- have good knowledge of the Swedish and European research funding landscape,
- have experience in reviewing research proposals,
- have experience of research advising or research support, and of transferring knowledge to researchers,
- have worked with common application portals, especially Prisma and the EU Funding & Tenders Portal.
Your qualities
We place particular emphasis on your personal qualities. The role of Research Advisor, involving many internal and external contacts, places high demands on collaboration, communication, and relationship-building skills.
To succeed in the role you are outgoing, have excellent communication and collaboration skills, are curious, and interested in building strong relationships with researchers and university leadership. You also identify with a supportive role for the university’s researchers and research environments.
The role includes a broad range of activities and responsibilities and therefore requires the ability to work independently as well as to organise and prioritise your work.
Finally, strengthening and developing Mid Sweden University’s Grants Office is an important part of the role. This requires the ability to collaborate with colleagues within the Grants Office and across the Grants and Innovation Office, as well as an interest in developing the office’s services and in continuously strengthening both your own and your colleagues’ competence.
