The project is titled Flexible 6G Radio System Design using Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS): A Collaborative Project between Sweden and the USA.
What was the application for?
The application was for a collaborative project supported by the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT). The project aims to initiate collaboration between Mid Sweden University (MIUN) and the University of Houston, Texas (UH) to explore and advance the field of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided multi-purpose 6G radio system design for sensing, communication, and localization. The project is focused on sharing knowledge, expertise, and research methods between the two universities.
Which university did you choose to visit and why did you pick that specific university to work with?
The project involves a collaboration between Mid Sweden University (MIUN) and the University of Houston, Texas (UH). The University of Houston was chosen for its significant expertise in wireless networking, signal processing, and security, particularly led by Dr. Zhu Han and his research group. Dr. Han is a distinguished researcher in the field of electrical and computer engineering, and the Wireless Networking, Signal Processing, and Security research group at UH possesses the necessary resources and research capabilities to further the goals of the project.
What will you do with the fundings? (What kind of exchange are you planning?)
The funding from STINT will primarily be used to support bilateral research visits, workshops, and educational activities between the two universities. The funds will facilitate researchers and students from both institutions to engage in collaborative research projects, workshops, seminars, and courses. The exchange will include senior researchers, Ph.D. and Masters students participating in short research visits, guest lectures, and jointly supervised thesis works. This exchange will foster the sharing of expertise and methodologies, thus enhancing both universities' overall research and educational capacity.
What’s the next step now?
The next step is to kickstart the collaboration by planning and coordinating the research visits, workshops, and educational activities outlined in the project proposal. This could involve organizing workshops, setting up research visits between the two universities, and arranging guest lectures. The focus will be on establishing effective communication channels, exchanging knowledge, and initiating joint research projects. As the project progresses, the collaboration will lead to research outcomes, joint publications, and the expansion of research capacity in the field of RIS-aided 6G radio system design.
