Grant Thornton Invests in Interns: “It’s Never Been More Important to Welcome Students”
The five-week internship period has now begun for business students specializing in accounting and finance. Wille Eriksson and Joel Lundahl are doing their internship at Grant Thornton’s office in Sundsvall and are enjoying it immensely.
“It’s going to be great to get the chance to explore different aspects of accounting and auditing and to see how our theoretical knowledge can be applied in real life,” says Joel, with Wille adding:
“This is the first time either of us is interning at an accounting and auditing firm. But already, our interest in the profession has grown, and it’s definitely something I could see myself doing in the future.”
Felix Herkules, Senior Consultant in Accounting at Grant Thornton and the students’ supervisor, says it’s more important than ever to welcome interns.
“The competition for future talent in our industry has definitely intensified, and every company wants the best employees. That’s why it’s crucial that we open up for internships and dedicate time to give students the practical experience they need. Hopefully, they’ll be inspired to pursue a career in the field after graduation.”
During their time at Grant Thornton, Wille and Joel will gain insight into various aspects of accounting and auditing—from basic bookkeeping tasks to being introduced to the firm’s tax and advisory services. According to Felix, curiosity and a desire to learn are essential qualities in interns.
“You can never be too eager to learn. Asking lots of questions and showing initiative is always a good thing. It’s also a sign that the effort we put into mentoring is paying off.”
