What is it really like to intern in the field of auditing? For business students Midia Ismail and Frida Tjernberg, their five-week internship this spring was an eye-opener into the auditing industry—filled with real tasks, new insights, and supportive mentorship.

“At first, I thought we would mostly just observe. But we got to work on real cases and do actual tasks, which was a lot of fun,” says Frida.

During the internship, the students worked on audit reviews and closing exercises—tasks typically included in the company’s onboarding for new employees. All of this was done with support from mentors and colleagues.
“It felt like we really contributed. We weren’t just sitting on the sidelines—we were part of the team,” says Midia.

Robert Viklund, Audit Manager at Deloitte’s Sundsvall office and certified auditor, was one of the mentors along with Daniel Uddegård, Audit Associate at Deloitte. They believe the goal of the internship is to provide a realistic view of the profession.

“We want interns to experience what the job is really like—but in a safe environment. They’ve been involved in the entire audit cycle, but there’s always been someone available to ask questions and discuss with, which is important,” says Robert.

Another positive aspect, according to both Midia and Frida, was having each other during the internship.
“We could ask each other questions, share ideas, and help each other when things were difficult. That made us feel more secure, especially in the beginning.”
