Business and economics students My Österling and Linnéa Lindqvist completed their five-week internship at the IT company GDM's finance department in Sundsvall. As their main assignment, they conducted a comprehensive risk analysis based on needs identified by the company.

“The purpose of the project was to identify business-related risks and develop strategies to minimize or eliminate them,” says Ketil Sletbakk, CFO at GDM and the students’ supervisor.

He explains that the project allowed the students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting while also contributing to the company’s development. Through data collection, interviews with staff from various departments, and independent work, the students were able to create a comprehensive overview of the company’s risk environment.

“At first, it was hard to know how to approach the task, but gradually the pieces started to fall into place. The project has been both challenging and educational,” says Linnéa, with My adding:

“We’ve had the chance to test our theoretical knowledge in a setting where the results are actually going to be used. It’s been valuable to see how theory and practice can work together—but also where they clash.”

The project was based on business administration theory, with a focus on strategic management. The students’ contribution has been highly appreciated by the company.

“This is incredibly valuable for us. In a rapidly changing world, it’s a challenge to continuously identify and manage risks. We don’t always have the time to prioritize this kind of analysis in our daily work, so it’s been very welcome to gain new perspectives and concrete suggestions,” says Ketil.
