Flooré, one of the companies in the EU project HIPS, Sustainable Innovations and Products in Forest Bioeconomy, has now installed its new circular underfloor heating system in a conference room at Grönborgs in Sundsvall.

The HIPS project, with support from Mid Sweden University's research, will strengthen small and medium-sized companies in the bioeconomy and contribute to sustainable development as well as increased international expertise in wood, fiber and cellulose. Flooré, which is one of the participating companies in HIPS, has developed a circular underfloor heating system that is now being tested in a Living Lab environment within the EU project CirCoCreation.

The floor has been developed with a focus on sustainability and circularity, where traditional materials have been replaced with bio-based cardboard boards. The solution enables easy installation directly on existing substrates, while the choice of materials reduces climate impact.

"For us, it's not just about delivering a product, it's about contributing to a new way of building – where recycled materials and energy efficiency go hand in hand," says Rafael Carvajal, CEO of Flooré.

He continues:
"The living lab environment in the CirCoCreation project gives us the opportunity to test, learn and improve our solutions in real construction projects, where Grönborg is a clear example of what happens when innovation, research and industry meet in a common goal.

The installation at Grönborgs marks an important step in the project, where the system is now being tested in a real environment. The idea is that the floor can later be taken up and reinstalled in a new location – a concrete example of circular use.

"It will be very interesting to evaluate how the floor works over time and in different environments," says Gunilla Pettersson, senior lecturer at Mid Sweden University, who together with researchers Per Engstrand and Amanda Mattsson, also from Mid Sweden University, has been involved in developing the circular underfloor heating system that has now been installed.
