Engagement for individuals with intellectual disabilities
To contribute to strengthened collaboration concerning the living conditions of citizens with intellectual disabilities, Östersund Municipality, Mid Sweden University, and additional stakeholders in Jämtland/Härjedalen are collaborating in a joint project.
This collaborative project focused on the commitment of decision-makers to citizens with intellectual disabilities and how they perceive their own role in terms of societal attitude changes. Mid Sweden University's role in this collaborative project was to monitor the implementation of the Special Olympic day and investigate how personal encounters and shared activities at an event like the Special Olympic day can be reflected in the commitment of decision-makers to citizens with intellectual disabilities. This involves the analysis of interviews and observations with decision-makers and service personnel who participated in a visitation program during Special Olympic day, regarding how engagement in living conditions for citizens with intellectual disabilities can be understood in relation to decision-makers, service personnel, and individuals with disabilities participating together in sports activities and discussions surrounding them.
