Green Wing
Östersund becomes the centre of development of a new type of energy-efficient and climate-smart aircraft wing for electric aircraft.
The success of the electrification of aviation requires not only better batteries and engines. The aerodynamics of the plane, where the design of wings is central, is at least as important. There is a need for increased knowledge, something that the project Green Wing will contribute.
The project will contribute to fossil-free flight through the development of small aircraft specially adapted for electric propulsion. The project involves applied and industry-relevant research and can help bring a technology concept closer to commercial use.
Green Flyway International Test Arena Östersund is the initiator of the project Green Wing.
Objectives
The effect goal is to develop a wing that meets the special requirements for
a wing in an electric plane.
Project objectives
1. BlackWing shall construct a wing based on Blackwing’s experience and
competence may be considered suitable for an electric powered aeroplane.
2. Sports Tech Research Centre at Mid Sweden University lets manufacture and purchase the wing from one of three possible Swedish commercial manufacturers of composite structures.
3. The wing shall be mounted on a BW600 aeroplane.
4. All project participants shall draw up a test flight programme.
5. Test pilots from Blackwing, Vernamack and Green Flyway will perform
at least 50 flights to verify wing performance and aerodynamics
characteristics. Mid Sweden University must have appropriate measuring equipment during flights
mounted in the airplane. Completed flights and collected data are the criteria for:
that the objective is to be deemed to have been met.
6. Mid Sweden University will, based on theoretical calculations, develop requirements for a
electric powertrain and define batteries for what is required for a future aircraft. Based on the results of the flight tests, these requirements shall be modified.
The criterion for meeting the target is the supply of a specification for an electric powertrain for a two-seater electric-powered aeroplane.
The project is financed by the Swedish Energy Agency within the framework of Fossil-Free Aviation 2045.
