Open workout places for inclusion and exclusion
In recent years municipalities in Sweden, as well as internationally, have installed public outdoor gyms, in order to encourage its inhabitants to an active and healthy lifestyle.
The research project is funded by The Swedish Research Council for Sport Science takes a broader account of the very process through which outdoor gyms come to be and its normative foundation. As such, the overarching aim of this project is to critically examine the process of the construction of outdoor gyms, from deliberations within the municipality, to marketing strategies and offerings from external gym equipment companies, to the actual bodies affected by these sites in terms of inclusion, especially in regards of gender, age and disability.
