Gender Studies is a uniquely transdisciplinary field of research that aims to critically examine power structures in society with a particular focus on gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, age, religion, gender expression, disability, body constitution, geopolitical location.
Gender Studies is an academic discipline with a transdisciplinary competence in knowledge and critical analysis of different types of power structures and how they interact with each other in society, politics, culture, technology and interpersonal relations. The focus of Gender Studies research is to broadly examine, problematize, question and change normative conceptions of socio-cultural inequalities and to highlight what such conceptions do in terms of power relations, privilege, discrimination and oppression in different contexts. Gender studies at Gaskeuniversiteete/Mittuniversitetet has an ambition to develop the interdisciplinary research in gender studies in collaboration with activists and researchers in different contexts and to work for decolonization of feminist knowledge production.
In addition to gender studies being a separate subject, the Forum for Gender Research (FGF) at the Mid-Sweden University is an interdisciplinary and campus-wide platform for initiating and coordinating research with a critical gender perspective throughout the univeristy.
