Homogenization theory
Homogenization theory deals with effective properties and microvariations of heterogeneous materials. This may, for example, involve heat conduction and elasticity in composite materials or the flow of fluids through finely structured media.
Ultimately, it aims to establish a mechanics for heterogeneous materials based on modern functional analysis and the theory of partial differential equations, in combination with physical laws.
The work focuses on multiscale methods, with particular emphasis on parabolic partial differential equations involving multiple scales in both time and space. Research is also conducted on generalizations of methods that do not rely on strict periodicity assumptions.
