The AILI research network has recently been awarded the status of EARLI Center for Excellence in Research. The status means that the network has received resources to write applications, run projects and work with publications until 2027.

The AILI (AI in Learning and Instruction) research network is a network of ten researchers from five countries. One of the Swedish representatives is Jimmy Jaldemark, Associate Professor of Education at Mid Sweden University.

- During the years 2024–2027, we have received the status of EARLI Center for Excellence in Research in Research from the European Association for Research in Learning and Instruction (EARLI). This means that the network has been given resources to jointly write applications, run research projects and work on joint publications during the years the network has the excellence status. The overall aim is to contribute knowledge about how AI affects and transforms the conditions for learning and teaching, with a specific focus on challenges and opportunities," says Jimmy Jaldemark.

As technological and societal development is affected by developments in the field of AI, there is a great drive throughout society to understand the latest advances, not least in learning.

"Just like earlier in history, technological development is also of great importance for learning. Right now, developments in digital technology, and specifically in the field of AI, are such a driving force in the development of society. Important efforts need to be made in research to contribute to the development of knowledge and thereby be able to contribute to strengthening the conditions for human learning," says Jimmy Jaldemark.

... I am very happy and proud that we managed to put together such an incredibly strong network with many world-leading researchers.

Highly regarded experts in various fields

The research network includes researchers with different skills and with different backgrounds. The variation is something that Jimmy believes has strengthened the network.

"There is tough competition for this type of resource, and I am very happy and proud that we managed to put together such an incredibly strong network with many world-leading researchers. This includes an exciting mix of skills from different areas. For example, Roger Säljö, professor at the University of Gothenburg, is a veteran who has been involved in building up international research on learning. We also have Andreas Gegenfurther, Maarten de Laat, Sanna Järvelä, Sabine Seuftert and Marcus Specht, each internationally highly regarded experts in different fields. In addition to me from Mid Sweden University, we have researchers from the University of Gothenburg, Jönköping University and University West, says Jimmy Jaldemark and continues:

"It will be incredibly inspiring to work with this team and see what we can achieve together.
