Background
Jimmy Jaldemark is a Professor at the Department of Education, Mid Sweden University, Sundsvall, Sweden. He has worked with the digitalisation of learning in Swedish higher education and working life for nearly 30 years, including administration, research, teaching, and assessment of educational settings. His current research interest concerns collaborative, lifelong, mobile, and networked aspects of learning. his interest is usually applied in higher education or professional development settings and embraces the impact of digitalisation (for example, AI) on society.
He co-edited the book Networked Professional Learning: Emerging and Equitable Discourses for Professional Development, published in 2019. He also recently guest edited a special issue called Lifelong Learning in Digital Era, published in the British Journal of Educational Technology, a journal he also serves as an editor. He is involved as a reviewer or an editorial board member in approximately 20 scientific journals. In earlier work, he has focused on various issues of learning, such as AI, participation in computer-mediated communication, designing for learning, educational technology, lifelong learning, online supervision of student dissertations, social media as a tool for learning, and mobile learning.
He co-founded a national research school called GRADE (GRAduate school for Digital technologies in Education). The Swedish Research Council funded the project and affiliated the first doctoral students in 2018. He is a member of the Center for research on Economic Relations (CER), Mid Sweden University. He is also part of an EARLI Centre for Excellence in Research called AI in Learning and Instructions. Challenges, Opportunities, Transformations (AILI).

Research
I am the research leader of HEEL (Higher Education and E-Learning), a research group based in the disciplines of Education and Informatics.
Below are four examples of projects and activities I work on:
HEEL Seminar
Since 2013, HEEL has run a working seminar for research in technology-enhanced learning, called the HEEL seminar. Researchers from Mid Sweden University, Aalborg University, Jönköping University, University West, the Open University of the Netherlands and Umeå University take turns to present and discuss current research projects. HEEL also organizes symposia where prominent international researchers present their research in the areas in which the group operates.
GRADE
HEEL is also active in GRADE (GRAduate school for Digitalisation of Education), a national interdisciplinary graduate school on digitalization and education. I am one of the founders and a member of the board. GRADE has affiliated about 50 doctoral students in three cohorts from the nine participating universities (University of Gothenburg, University of Gävle, Halmstad University, Jönköping University, University West, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Linnaeus University, Mid Sweden University and Umeå University) since the start in 2017. AI in Learning and Instruction? Challenges, Opportunities, Transformations (AILI)
AILI is an international network that has been granted the status of EARLI - Center for Excellence in Research and consists of 10 researchers from six countries (Australia, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland ). During 2024–2027, the network will work on research on AI and its effects on learning and teaching. The focus is on challenges, opportunities and transformation. In addition to being a member of the network, I coordinate it together with Professor Roger Säljö, University of Gothenburg. Center for Research on Economic Relations (CER)
Within CER, my main task is to develop research on lifelong learning. In that mission, I work with several research and development projects in work-integrated learning.
