Sociology MA, Sociology of Crises and Disaster Risk Reduction, 7.5 Credits
The course explores sociological perspectives on crises and disasters, from everyday emergencies to large-scale societal catastrophes. Students analyse how crises both reflect and reshape social order, considering historical and contemporary research, societal responses, power structures, cultural norms, and institutional capacities, with connections to resilience, sustainability, and climate change.
The structure of the teaching
The campus course includes several meetings where you are expected to participate on site, and some components require mandatory attendance.
The distance course requires that you have access to a computer with an internet connection. All communication takes place via the course’s online platform and meeting tools such as Zoom.
Entry requirements
A bachelor's degree of at least 180 credits in social or behavioural sciences, of which a minimum of 60 credits in sociology. English level 2/English 6 from Swedish Upper Secondary School (Gymnasium) or the equivalent.
