Aim

The course aim to give the student a deeper insight in current hot topics within computer engineering.

Course objectives

After completion of the course the student is expected to be able to:
- Solve problems in the studied area of research including system design issues, networking and advanced programming techniques.
- Identify and evaluate critical issues and existing technological limitations in the state-of-the-art in computer engineering.
- Identify the most relevant papers in the professional literature and review them.
- Analyze the performances of studied solutions using numerical analysis and formal proofs.
- Grasp the impact of different solutions can have to an application or a system.
- Critically analyze the problems and find new solutions for modern networks and computer systems.

Content

This course examines current state of art, research-related topics in the fields of data communication, computer networks, wireless networks, computer security, distributed systems, real-time systems, machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer vision, etc. The content in the course can change from year to year, depending on what topics are hot within computer engineering. Covering a broad range of topics and based on mainly scientific articles, it is intended for students planning to carry out a thesis project in computer engineering or anyone interested in the contemporary research problems in this field.

Entry requirements

Computer Engineering BA (ABC), 45 credits, including at least 20 credits in programming. Computer Engineering AV, TCP/IP. Mathematics, 25 credits, including course in statistics or stochastic processes.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The course will include seminars, assignments, and project. Seminars will be given by researchers, invited speakers and by students.

Examination form

I101: Written review assignments, 2.5 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)

P101: Project with written report, 3 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

S101: Give a seminar of chosen topic, 0.5 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)

2.5 credits, I101: written review assignments.
Grades: Pass or Fail

0.5 credits, S101: give a seminar of chosen topic.
Grades: Pass or Fail

3.0 credits, P101: Project, with written report
Grading: A, B, C, D, E, Fx och F. A-E is Pass, Fx and F is Fail.
