Aim

The course should provide a introduction to industrial robotics through a theoretical background and practical experimentation. The course will provide a general understanding of the basic principles of industrial robots and its programming and operation.

Course objectives

After taking this course student should be able to:
- describe fundamental concept and techniques used in robotic systems.
- show basic knowledge and understanding of control and programming of industrial robots.
- describe sensor systems and tools that are used within industrial robotics.
- identify and assess which automation problems are suitable for industrial robots.
- Demonstrate a responsible approach to machine and robot safety.
- Describe verbally and in writing about robot modeling,programming and robot structure that include mechanics, sensor, drive systems and control systems.

Entry requirements

Electrical Engineering 22.5 credits including courses Analog and digital Electronics, Automatic Control, Computer Engineering 7.5 credits, Math 15 credits.

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The course is offered in Web-based educational material.
The course includes a physical meeting to perform and present Laboratory work.
Laboratory work require your own computer.

Lectures, instruction material and tutoring can be in English or in Swedish.

Examination form

I103: Assignments, 3 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

L103: Labs, 4.5 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)

The overall course grade will be based on all examination parts, where all learning objectives are considered.

The examiner has the right to offer alternative examination arrangements to students who have been granted the right to special support by Mid Sweden University’s disabilities adviser.

Examination restrictions

Students are entitled to three examination opportunities within one year according to the examination format given in this version of the course syllabus. After the one-year period, the examination format given in the most recent version of the course syllabus applies.

Grading system

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

Other information

The course requires a personal computer and Internet access via broadband when given as distance course. The laboratory work and the project also requires access to a computer with the operating system Windows Professional and rights to install software.
