Aim
The purpose of the course is to give students knowledge in scientific method, so they afterwards will be able to conduct a study of their own and to write a master thesis on sufficient academical level.
Course objectives
The goal is to develop students’ capability to independently formulate and investigate business research problems. Students will after the course: have acquired an over view over some scientific methods, be able to formulate relevant theoretical research problems independently, be able to chose appropriate research methods for studying such problems.
Content
The course is designed to offer deeper knowledge, understanding and necessary skills to conduct a piece of business research, i.e. a master thesis. The idea is to provide a practical overview of several research methods; and exemplify how these methods can be applied to research problems in business administration concerning the collection and analysis of data. Candidate, after completing this course, will be able to understand diverse research techniques, and when and how, to use them to better practice data analysis. The course involves "hands-on" application of the statistical techniques in a lab setting.
Selection rules and procedures
The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.
Teaching form
The education is based on lectures and seminars (some in a lab setting) as well as tutorials, where active participation is requested. As programmed hours are only about ten hours a week, candidate is expected to do a lot of studying of his/her own. Reading rooms are provided in the library.
Grading system
Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
