Aim

The student will develop her / his ability to critically review and communicate scientific results through submission assignments and an own project work in environmental science.

Course objectives

After completing the course, the student should be able to
- apply basic scientific ethics and accepted methods for writing a scientific report.
- search, review, and evaluate scientific literature
- in writing and orally communicate scientific results in an environmental science field.

Content

The course provides knowledge in how to sort and use scientific literature, writing and providing feedback on a scientific report as well as verbally presenting scientific material.

Optional study visit to the library.

Entry requirements

15 credits in Environmental Science at undergraduate level.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

Lectures, seminars, assignments, and supervision. Students are supposed to write their own scientific report in environmental science.

Examination form

I100: Assignments and oral presentation, 2.5 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)

P100: Oral presentation of scientific report, 0.5 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)

R100: Written scientific report, 4.5 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
Includes feedback on another student's report.

The examiner has the right to offer alternative examination arrangements to students who have been granted the right to special support by Mid Sweden University’s disabilities adviser.

Examination restrictions

Student registered on this version of syllabus has the right to participate in examination, according to the specified examination form, three (3) times within one (1) year from the start of the course. Thereafter, the examination form is in accordance with the latest version of the syllabus.

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
