Aim
The aim of the course is to gain in-depth knowledge in the field of Respiratory Nursing.
Course objectives
Upon completion of the course the participants should be able to:
Knowledge and Understanding
1. Describe and reflect on a person-centred approach in nursing of people with respiratory illnesses.
2. Explain and justify interventions and approaches that promote or hinder support for lifestyle changes in people with respiratory illnesses.
3. Explain how self-care support, information, and education for people with respiratory illnesses can be provided in collaboration with relatives and through interprofessional teamwork.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of and critically discuss the impact of gender equality and societal factors for people with respiratory illnesses.
Skills and Abilities
5. Identify, search for, and critically review scientific articles through structured information retrieval, evaluation, analysis, and correct referencing within the field of nursing for respiratory illnesses.
6. Compile current research within a specialised area related to nursing for respiratory illnesses and person-centred care.
Judgement and Approach
7. Analyse and explore scientific articles from ethical, sustainable, and equitable perspectives.
8. Independently conduct and document a written assignment (PM) by compiling results from scientific articles within a specialised area of nursing for pulmonary diseases.

Module 1: Introduction to the course components and the area of Respiratory Nursing.
- In-depth lectures on respiratory nursing:
- Overview of common pulmonary diseases, symptoms, need for teamwork, and nursing interventions.
- Physical activity and pulmonary rehabilitation, smoking cessation, and stigma.
Module 2: Workshop on information retrieval / Respiratory Nursing
- In-depth lectures on respiratory nursing:
- Person-centered care: relatives, partnership, advanced care planning and decision-making.
- Follow-up and self-care in pulmonary diseases, inhalation techniques.
- Support for nursing interventions in respiratory nursing: screening tools, e-health and telehealth.
Module 3: Written submission of a Paper within a chosen area related to Respiratory Nursing.
- Preparation and writing of the Paper.
- Examination seminar where each pair/group, presents their Paper in an opponent/respondent format.

The course is a commissioned education program that, with support from the Ordinance on Commissioned Education at Universities and Colleges (SFS 2002:760), can be offered for a fee by a legal entity, i.e., public clients or private companies, for the professional development of employees.
