Aim

The purpose of the course is to provide knowledge of international and comparative pedagogy in various education systems in relation to other countries' education and international standards.

Course objectives

After completion of the course the students should:
- have acquired knowledge and understanding of the Swedish education system,
- possess knowledge of how various education systems can be compared,
- know where to seek information about different education systems.

Content

The Swedish educational system and the different school forms it consists of,
- Comparisons of different education systems in different countries,
- Theory, methods and practice related to international and comparative education.
- International processes comparing education and availability of international educational statistics,
- International organizations working with education.

Entry requirements

Approved studies within the field of Education at 60 credits or corresponding.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The course is taught as a regular course through a number of lectures and seminars. A part of the course is organized as individual or pair work comparing education in selected countries.

2101: The Swedish school system, oral examination, 2.5 Credits

2102: Comparisons of international education systems, written paper, , 5 Credits

Examination takes place in the form of written and oral presentations, seminars, and assignments. The course work should be examined at the ordinary examination or re-examined at a later occasion during the same semester. Two opportunities to re-examine the course work are normally given in the following semester while the student has requested it. After that a student with a fail-grade is advised to participate in the next ordinary examination. Re-examinations based on the same curriculum are guaranteed within one year after the first registration on the course.

If a student has a decision from the coordinator at Mid Sweden University regarding educational support for disabilities, the examiner has the right to provide adapted examination for the student.
