Aim

The student shall acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of the manufacturing, function and characterization of thin-film electronics based on insulating, semi-conducting and conducting materials.

Course objectives

The student shall be able to:
- explain concepts in the course.
- explain the function of different types of electronic components based on thin films, such as organic LEDs, solar cells and transistors.
- explain the function of organic and inorganic semiconductor materials.
- describe different manufacturing technologies for producing thin films
- account for material parameters that affect the performance of electronic components, such as conductivity, bandgap, mobility.
- manufacture semiconductor components based on thin films in a lab environment and characterize these using accepted analysis methods.

Content

The course includes:
- Function and construction of electronic components based on thin films.
- Properties of various relevant materials such as semiconducting and conducting polymers and inorganic materials.
- Manufacturing methods relevant to the production of thin film components.
- Characterization techniques relevant to thin film electronics.
