Information for new Honorary Doctors

Academic ceremony October 1-2, 2026

The academic ceremony extends over two days, October 1-2 in Sundsvall. On Thursday, new honorary doctors and professors hold inaugural lectures at the Sundsvall campus. Here you can read about what applies to your lecture: Instructions for your inaugural lecture.

Marketing your lecture

To attract listeners to the lectures, we promote them through calendar events, among other things. By July 7 , we would like you to email the following information to akademiskhogtid@miun.se: 

• The title of your lecture
• a brief summary of what you are going to talk about (maximum 650 characters including blank spaces) and
• a photo of yourself.

Lunch on campus

After the inaugural lectures, the university offers lunch at the campus restaurant. Your accompanying person is also welcome to join during lunch. You can already sign up for yourself and your companion for lunch. Fill out the form twice to register both of you: Registration for lunch.  

Dress rehearsal and Vice-Chancellor's formal dinner, October 1

On Thursday afternoon, a dress rehearsal will be held for all ceremony participants (honorary doctors, doctors and professors) where we go through all parts of the ceremony.

Later that evening, the Vice-Chancellor invites everyone to a formal dinner where all ceremony participants have the opportunity to meet and get to know each other in a more relaxed way. Mid Sweden University invites you as an honorary doctor with an accompanying person to this dinner. At the Vice-Chancellor's formal dinner, the dress code is lounge suit, dark lounge suit, smart casual or business casual. 

Banquet

The ceremony is followed by a banquet that begins with mingling at Quality hotel. During the dinner there will be speeches and entertainment. 

Mid Sweden University invites you as an honorary doctor with an accompanying person to the banquet. You also have the option of inviting up to four additional guests for an cover price. 

The banquet is a dinner where alcohol is served and where the guests sit at the table for several hours. It is therefore not suitable for smaller children. The age limit for the banquet is 16 years. 

Official invitation 

At the end of August, you will receive an official invitation to our academic ceremony. Even though we know that you will be attending, you need to register no later than September 11 via the link in your invitation.

When you register, you book acommodation and travel and you also have the option to indicate that you would like to bring an accompanying person. Your accompanying person stays with you at the hotel and goes to the banquet free of charge. However, travel for accompanying persons is paid for yourself.

You also have the opportunity to invite up to four additional guests who pay for a banquet (cover price SEK 1,000), hotel and travel yourself.

Material for digital presentation

Before the ceremony, you need to send a short presentation of yourself and a photo (if you want a different one than the one you sent in for the calendar event) to be used for a digital presentation of all participants in the ceremony. About submit information for the presentation. 

Clothing

Dress for you as an honorary doctor is formal dress - that is, tailcoat with white waistcoat/girdle and white bow tie/bow as well as black socks and black patent leather shoes, and long dress/top with long skirt in any color.

Companions and guests

For your accompanying and any guests, formal attire or dark suit applies at the banquet. Guests who only participate as an audience during the ceremony wear any attire.

As a participant in the academic ceremony, you should be aware that the inaugural lectures and the ceremony are documented with photos and video. If you do not want to appear in the picture, please contact akademiskhogtid@miun.se.

Important dates

July 7 

• Last day to submit documentation for marketing your lecture.

September 11 

• Last day to submit slideshows for your inaugural lecture.
• Last day to submit a short presentation and photo of yourself (if you want something other than that for the press release) for the digital presentation.
• Last day to register for our academic ceremony.
