The Sochi Winter Olympics and Paralympics | 2010 |
Proud as a peacock. It is easy to feel that way when you think about all the Olympic medals that the Swedish cross-country skiers won in Sochi. And at Mid Sweden University, we preen ourselves a little more – since many of the skiers were, or have been, students here.
12 out of a total of 17 skiers on the Swedish cross-country team during the Sochi Winter Olympics either were or had been students at the Ski and Biathlon University in Östersund. Also, the whole team had been tested and trained at the Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre, Mid Sweden University’s advanced environment for sports-based research.
Both Teodor Peterson and Britta Johansson-Norgren were studying at Mid Sweden University during the Olympic Games – and Teodor brought home a bronze medal in the men’s team sprint.
Emil Jönsson, who also won a bronze medal in the men’s team sprint, and Ida Ingemarsdotter had also studied at Mid Sweden University. Other former Mid Sweden University students in the Olympic squad were Anders Södergren, Anna Haag, Emma Wikén, Calle Halfvarsson, Emil Jönsson, Sara Lindborg, Charlotte Kalla, Johan Olsson and Simon Persson.
