Linda Maria Thompson is a doctoral student in artistic practice with an emphasis on photography at Mid Sweden University in collaboration with HDK-Valand at the University of Gothenburg.

Linda is a practicing artist and educator based in Ångermanland, Sweden. She has a background both academically and professionally in photojournalism with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Montana and a Master of Arts from Mid Sweden University. She has authored three monographs and her work has been exhibited internationally. Recently she has been working experimentally with plant-based photographic techniques, archival materials and a variety of documentary arts practices.

Place is often central to her artistic practice and inquiry. Her doctoral project with the working title, “Revision and the river: Visual arts practice at the confluence of memory and imagination,” is concerned with creating new knowledge about and through arts practice mediating the representational challenges related to seemingly impossible environmental crises. The project focuses on the case of the industrialized Nämforsen waterfall-turned-hydropower-plant along the iconic Ångermanälven River in Northern Sweden as a site of collective memory and imaginary potential. Through interpretive environmental rephotography and other acts of revision, this work aims to problematize urgent challenges in representation and visibility while also exploring the concept and usefulness of “revisionist photography.”
