What is rehabilitation?
Rehabilitation is a collective term for all measures that are used to help employees return to regular work.
These measures can be of a medical, psychological, social or occupational nature. Occupational rehabilitation involves efforts needed in order for a person who has suffered from sickness to be able to regain their ability to work.
Rehabilitation at Mid Sweden University
Employees are the university's most valuable resource in order for us to be able to carry out our mandate and achieve our objectives. Health and safety work at Mid Sweden University should be aimed at promoting health and preventing ill-health.
Good health and a good work environment promote efficient operations. When sickness and ill-health do affect a person, Mid Sweden University as an employer should work efficiently and in a structured manner with rehabilitation.
The difference between health and safety work and rehabilitation is that health and safety is usually preventative, whilst rehabilitation is done following an illness or injury. It is important that experience learned from rehabilitation is used in preventative health and safety work.
The employer's rehabilitation responsibility
The employer is responsible for investigating and following up occupational rehabilitation for their employees. Contact and dialogue early on between the supervisor and employee is important to a successful rehabilitation process. If needed, external parties can be involved.
The employee in focus
The purpose of rehabilitation is to help the employee return to their regular work as soon as possible. It is therefore of great importance to take the employee's personal circumstances into consideration during the rehabilitation process. The employee should be given an opportunity – but also has an obligation – to share actively in the rehabilitation and other measures that are planned.
Documentation
It is very important that the entire rehabilitation process be documented. Rehabilitation meetings must be documented with memorandums. Other contact that has been made, such as telephone calls with the employee, doctors and Försäkringskassan, must be documented.
Confidentiality
All information relating to sick leave and rehabilitation is under confidentiality. Confidential documents must be stored in a safe manner.
