Here are links to some of the most popular Swedish financiers.
Energimyndigheten
Research on new and renewable energy technologies, smart grids, as well as vehicles and transport fuels of the future receives funding from Energimyndigheten. The research should contribute to fulfilling the climate goals and long-term energy policies, as well as energy related environmental goals. Swedish energy research should also contribute to and benefit from international cooperations within the field of energy.

Forte
Forte funds basic research and needs-driven research within three main fields: health, working life and welfare. A large part of Forte’s funds are allocated through the big annual winter call.

Formas
Formas is a government research council for sustainable development. Their areas of activity include the environment, agricultural sciences and spatial planning. About half of Forte’s funds are allocated through the big annual spring call.

Riksbankens jubileumsfond (RJ)
Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (RJ) is an independent foundation with the goal of promoting and supporting research in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Priority is given to research areas in which financing from other sources is limited, to major, long-term research projects, and the foundation also seeks to promote contact with international research.

Swedish Research Council
The Swedish Research Council (VR) is Sweden’s largest governmental research funding body, and supports research of the highest quality within all scientific fields. A large part of the Swedish Research Council’s funds are allocated through the big annual winter/spring call.

Vinnova is Sweden’s innovation agency. They help build Sweden's innovation capacity, and fund needs-driven research, thereby contributing to sustainable growth.

The Knowledge Foundation
The Knowledge Foundation funds research and competence development at Sweden’s university colleges and new universities with the purpose of strengthening Sweden’s competitiveness. They provide funding when activities are conducted in collaboration between academic staff and business sector partners. The aim is to build internationally competitive, integrated research and education environments.
NOTE! MIUN has its own internal routines for applications to The Knowledge Foundation. All applications are reviewed internally before being sent to The Knowledge Foundation. Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation
The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW) is the largest private financier of research in Sweden. The Foundation supports long-term, basic research beneficial to Sweden, mainly in the fields of medicine, technology, and the natural sciences. This is achieved by funding projects, and through long-term grants to excellent researchers. The Foundation can also initiate grants to strategic projects and scholarship programs.

Other foundations have been founded by different members of the Wallenberg family. A number of them fund research within the humanities, social sciences, finance, law and pedagogy/learning.

The Ragnar Söderberg Foundation is a private financier of research that mainly funds projects within the fields of medicine, finance, and law.

Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research
The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, SSF, funds research in the fields science, engineering and medicine .The prioritized areas are: Life Sciences, Life Science Technologies, Materials Sciences & Technologies, Informations-, Communications- & Systems Technologies, Computational Sciences and Applied Mathematics.

STINT, The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education, promotes knowledge and competence development within internationalisation and invests in internationalisation projects proposed by researchers, educators and leaderships at Swedish universities.

Åforsk
ÅForsk is aimed at research and development within its main areas: Infrastructure, Sustainability, Material, Renewable Products, Energy, Processes, Security, and Environment. Research and travel grants are given to students, Ph.D. students and to researchers who have recently defended their Ph.D. theses, among others.
