Mid Sweden University visited doctoral school in Nairobi
Associate Professor Evangelia Petridou recently made an appreciated contribution to an international doctoral school in Nairobi, Kenya. The school is run by the International Public Policy Association, which is the premier public policy organization internationally.
"Discussing theory and practice in public policy from a global perspective, with students and researchers at the beginning of their careers, offers learning opportunities not only for the students, but also for me as a researcher," says Evangelia Petridou.
Nearly 30 doctoral students from Uganda, Nigeria, South Africa, Chile and Kenya, among others, participated during the week-long doctoral school. The program included lectures, presentations and keynote speakers from highly qualified professionals and academics in Kenya. The participants' areas of activity covered various topics in public policy, such as forest policy, land use, indigenous peoples and water management.
"You become aware of all the different perspectives, such as problems with the implementation of policies caused by unstable governments and how different cultures and languages further complicate the policy-making of public policy," says Evangelia Petridou.
