New book on study motivation launched
After three years of research in five schools in Sundsvall, a new book is now being launched on what affects pupils' motivation to learn – and how schools can strengthen it.
In the book "Motivation for learning in compulsory school", Professor Lena Boström and Associate Professor Göran Bostedt present the results of an extensive research project in which pupils, teachers, after-school centre staff, student health and principals have participated. Both Lena Boström and Göran Bostedt are active in pedagogy at the Department of Education, Psychology and Social Work (PPS).
The study on which the book is based shows that study motivation is affected by several interacting factors, such as the students' own drive, the teachers' work, social relationships and the school's physical environment. The results are put in relation to established theories and previous research, with the aim of providing a deeper understanding of how motivation can be strengthened in practice.
The book also includes a digital study guide with discussion exercises and best practices to support the school's work. It is aimed at teachers, after-school care staff, student health teams, principals and others who want to develop the work with motivation for learning in compulsory school.
