Due to the violence in Iran

It is with deep concern we follow the serious situation for students and university employees in Iran. Mid Sweden University condemns the use of violence against students and peaceful protesters.

The demonstrations in Iran continue. International media reports that Iranian security forces have surrounded protesting students at Sharif University of Technology in Teheran, shooting at them and firing tear gas towards them. The protests started because 22-year-old Mahsa Zhina Amini died in police custody on September 16. This after she was arrested by the Iranian morality police who claimed she showed too much of her hair.

Mid Sweden University, together with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions SUHF, condemns the use of violence against students and demonstrators during the ongoing protests in Iran. We are strongly committed to democratic and human rights including the right to free expression and non-violent protests. Current violations of these rights for university students and staff in Iran are deeply concerning.
