In a collaboration with Kulturmagasinet, student teachers from Mid Sweden University have been given the opportunity to guide students from Allsta School and Prolympia Fritids through inspiring creative activities.

Can you tell us a little about the day and the set-up?

"Through a collaboration with Kulturmagasinet, we have had the opportunity to let our student teachers who take the art course lead creative activities with students from different schools in Sundsvall. This year it was Allsta school and Prolympia fritids who had the opportunity to participate. Kulturmagasinet's Frida Lundström works as an art educator and has previously been an after-school teacher, which has created great opportunities to introduce students to thinking about both the museum as a place and how students can work with students. The students have worked together in groups and each group has been given a class to take care of," says Josefin Sebring, lecturer.

Why is it important?

- The students who take the art course at UTV are largely students who, in addition to after-school teachers and primary school teachers, also become art teachers in elementary school. Having the opportunity to get out into a business and meet students is a fantastic opportunity to practice what we work with in the art course. Also to see what opportunities there are for creativity in activities other than school is something that I think is useful to take with you for the future professional life. Something else that has been developing for the students is to work together as a team to plan the work with the students, says Josefin Sebring.

The children seemed very happy both during and after their creation

How was it received by the school classes?

"My experience is that the teachers who accompanied their classes were very happy about all the activities the students offered and were very positive about the initiative, they said that they would be happy to come back next year if possible. The children seemed very happy both during and after their creation," says Josefin Sebring.

Teacher student Sara Persson was also pleased with the day.

"It felt exciting to meet completely new students and see if our planning would work, both in terms of time and that the students would have a fun time with us. We used the Bengt Lindström exhibition and talked to the students about his creations.  After that, the pupils got to make their own paintings in that spirit in a playful way," says Sara Persson.

What was the best thing about the day?

The best part was when the activity was over and it was obvious that they had had a fun time with us and that they were proud of their artwork, says Sara Persson.
