The investment in strategic co-financing of new research projects will continue until 2026. This applies to projects granted funds by Vetenskapsrådet, Forte, Formas, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond eller EU:s ramprogram (H2020/Horisont Europa).

– The purpose of the funds is, among other things, to contribute to increasing external research funding from financiers where there is potential to increase income. We see that the investment has been appreciated and that it has had the intended effect, says Håkan Wiklund, pro-vice-chancellor for research. .

In 2020, Mid Sweden University decided to establish strategic co-financing to support outstanding researchers who received grants for research projects in fierce competition. The decision included that the pro-vice-chancellor for research in 2023 would follow up on whether the strategic co-financing had the intended effect and, if necessary, propose appropriate measures. A follow-up has been carried out and is presented in a report, dnr MIUN 2020/1413. The Research Council has discussed the report on 7 September 2023 and supports the recommendation to extend the investment for another three years.

– The investment in strategic co-financing means that granted projects receive a financial contribution from the vice-chancellor corresponding to 25% of the total amount that Mittuniversitetet received, says Håkan Wiklund.
