A severe earthquake occurred in southeast Turkey near the Syrian border during the night between Sunday and Monday, 6 February. The information we have at present is that there are no employees or students from Mid Sweden University in that area.

Mid Sweden University has cooperation agreements in Turkey, but not in Syria. We have incoming exchange students from Turkey.

After the earthquake, there was a severe aftershock that worsened the situation, and many people have died. Rescue teams and supplies, offered by dozens of countries, including Sweden, as well as the EU and NATO, are on-site or on their way to the affected area.

If you experience emotional distress, or if you are worried about your family and friends in the affected areas and need counselling, please talk to your immediate manager. You are also welcome to contact Previa, the university’s provider of occupational health care.

Mid Sweden University has also provided information to the students about the situation. Students who are worried or experience emotional distress and need counselling, are welcome to contact the Student Health Centre.

You will find a map of the affected areas here.
