Mid Sweden University investigates visiting professor
Mid Sweden University has initiated an investigation into an ongoing visiting professorship. The current cooperation was established a year ago.
– Some time ago, we were informed that one of our visiting professors was suspended from the European university where the professor is employed. The formal reasons for the suspension are reported to be related to violations of certain aspects of public employees’ laws. There are also suspicions against the professor regarding misconduct in research. We take this seriously, says Dean Hans-Erik Nilsson.
Mid Sweden University has therefore decided to initiate an investigation into the visiting professorship and to review its own recruitment process.
– It is very common among universities to associate visiting professors, to strengthen international relations, and Mid Sweden University has several similar collaborations. We are acting in accordance with the national order that applies to investigate this type of matter and this is the first time we have taken a similar action around a visiting professor. We expect the professor not to act in the name of Mid Sweden University while our investigation is ongoing, says Hans-Erik Nilsson.
In the present case, the cooperation has been of limited scope and it will end June 30th this year. The visiting professorship has been funded by external funds and the financier has been informed about Mid Sweden University’s actions.
