Have you ever wondered what the big piles of snow at Studentplan in Östersund are for? Well, they are part of an obstacle course that Ösis is building with the help of the property owners Intea. On Saturday, nine registered teams will make their way through the obstacle course.

And yes, a helmet is mandatory to compete in the Nordic Students Winter Games. For the second year in a row, the competition is arranged and the snow piles are both higher and icier than last year. This obstacle course is not to be trifled with, despite diligent attempts from the preschool children in the area.

"On the one hand, you have to get over physical obstacles that are these walls of snow, but on Saturday we will also have some puzzles along the way that must be solved before the teams can finish," he said. says Eli Berglund, event manager in Ösis, Östersund's students' sports association.

This year, nine teams consisting of six to eight people are registered, the teams consist of sections and committees from the student unions in Östersund and Sundsvall. At the same time, there are eight people who have been working for several months to create the event and on Saturday there will be close to 20 people on site to make sure that everything flows as it should.

"We're doing this because we think there's a lack of a real winter event for students in Östersund, we think there should be one in a winter city," says Eli, who studies Tourism and Destination Development.

"And because it's fun too, of course.

Several sponsors are involved

Intea has sponsored the construction of the course, Friskis & Svettis will be on site to keep the participants warm up before they tackle the snow obstacles and Cultum will serve soup. Inside the light hall there are Patches and Pins with a small Pop up store. The whole day ends with a gala inside the light hall where prizes will be handed out to the winning teams. Plus there will be some surprises.

The ambitions of the event group are that the Nordic Students Winter Games in the future will have participating students from all over the Nordic region.

"Next year, the goal is to have a team from Trondheim participate. But the idea is that we will expand every year," says Eli.

The games start at 10.00 this Saturday 2 March and anyone who wants to is welcome to come and watch.
