Multi‑factor authentication when logging in to VPN

Fri 03 May 2024 16:01

In connection with the cyberattack on Umeå University and warnings of an attack campaign against VPN services, it has been decided to enable multi-factor authentication for VPN login with immediate effect.

During the day, this change has been implemented by several higher education institutions around the country. Previously, you have logged in by entering your username and password. With the change, you now need to enter användarnamn@miun.se and password when logging in with VPN. This is followed by a requirement for MFA, which means that you as an employee need to approve the login using your mobile phone.

Previously, employees have been able to choose to authenticate themselves via SMS or the Microsoft Authenticator app. In order for the VPN to work, you who have used SMS now need to change your authentication method to Microsoft Authenticator. Remember that you as an employee are responsible for your login details and what is done in your account.
