Start Working in Canvas

You can access Canvas via the shortcut under Tools on miun.se or log in directly at canvas.miun.se.

The Ladok–Canvas integration automatically creates course shells for all course instances in Ladok. Faculty administrators add the course coordinator, who can then find their courses under Dashboard in Canvas. The course coordinator adds additional teachers to the course shell.

Material from Moodle

As a teacher, you can choose between two approaches if you want to bring material from Moodle:

1. For many teachers, it is sufficient to manually transfer the material from Moodle to Canvas. In that case, you download or copy, cut, and paste content from Moodle into Canvas. If you have videos in MiunPlay, your recordings will also be available in Canvas.
2. If you have many quizzes/question banks, it’s a good idea to get help with the migration from Moodle to Canvas. If you want material migrated, you can find more information here about how the migration process (transfer of material) from Moodle to Canvas works.

Would you like to use one course room for several Ladok course instances? The course coordinator can use the Administer Course function to arrange Joint Courses.

Do you want to request sub-course shells in Canvas for the upcoming term? Sub-courses mean that a Ladok course instance of 15 or 30 credits is divided into several separate course shells. These sub-course shells must be requested using the order form.

Do you want to request a programme room in Canvas? If your programme does not already have one, you can order it using the order form.

Project Timeline

The planned timeline for the introduction of the new learning platform is:

• Autumn Term 2024: Technical implementation, where the system is set up and integrated with other systems that need to interact with the platform. Logins for all teachers will be created. There will be different phases with pilot users during Autumn 2024 and pilot courses offered in Canvas in Spring 2025 (on a voluntary basis).
• Autumn Term 2025: All new courses will be created in Canvas.
• Spring Term 2026: On February 28, 2026, Moodle will be set to read-only mode. This means no changes can be made to course rooms or new courses created in Moodle. It will still be possible to read content and retrieve information from Moodle.

Canvas is the learning platform procured by Sunet and is used at around 30 higher education institutions in Sweden.
