Start Working in Canvas

You can find a shortcut to Canvas under Tools at miun.se or log in directly at canvas.miun.se.

As a teacher, you can choose to work in two ways:

• For many teachers, it is sufficient to manually transfer material from Moodle to Canvas. This means copying, cutting, and pasting from Moodle to Canvas. If this is that case, you only need to order a so-called “course-building room” or start building in your sandbox. If you are building several courses, it’s better to order course-building rooms for each. Order your course-building rooms
• If you have many quizzes/question banks, it’s a good idea to get help with the transfer from Moodle to Canvas. If you want your material migrated, click on the link to find more information about how the migration process from Moodle to Canvas works.

If you want to order a program room in Canvas for Autumn Term 2025, you can do so now. Program rooms are built from a blank course room or based on a simple template that will be available from the second half of May. You choose the type of program room you want to order in the order form.

Courses in Canvas: Spring Term 2025 and Summer 2025 (in Swedish)

Summer Courses 2025

This year, summer courses can be offered in either Moodle or Canvas. As the teacher of a summer course, you choose the learning platform and inform your students which platform the course will use. The deadline to register a summer course in Canvas was April 30. Summer courses in Moodle are ordered in the same way as in previous years.

Project Timeline

The planned timeline for the introduction of the new learning platform is:

• Autumn Term 2024: Technical implementation, where the system is set up and integrated with other systems that need to interact with the platform. Logins for all teachers will be created. There will be different phases with pilot users during Autumn 2024 and pilot courses offered in Canvas in Spring 2025 (on a voluntary basis).
• Autumn Term 2025: All new courses will be created in Canvas.
• Spring Term 2026: On February 28, 2026, Moodle will be set to read-only mode. This means no changes can be made to course rooms or new courses created. It will still be possible to read content and retrieve information from Moodle.

Canvas is the learning platform procured by Sunet and is used at around 30 higher education institutions in Sweden.
