Create an accessible learning environment
Do you want to create teaching where all students can succeed? In spring 2026, we are offering the course Creating an Accessible Learning Environment together with Karlstad University — a practical and inspiring course that equips you to meet diverse learning needs.
Target group
The course is intended for teaching staff and examiners, but also for others who encounter students with disabilities. The course is also suitable for doctoral students who will be teaching.
Learning outcomes
The goal is for participants, after the course, to be able to:
- Understand how different disabilities can affect students and what responsibility teachers have to improve accessibility.
- Plan and carry out teaching considering accessibility for all students.
- Adapt and improve course materials to meet different students' needs and promote their learning.
- Apply concrete tools and strategies to create a more accessible learning environment
Content
How is your teaching going? Is it designed in a way that makes it clear, understandable, varied, and interesting?
Statistics show that three times as many students receive pedagogical support today compared to ten years ago. This indicates that there is a great diversity among your students.
We, as university and college teachers, have considerable freedom to design our teaching, but there are also responsibilities, such as ensuring that it is accessible. Accessibility requirements also apply during examinations. What does this mean for you, and what tools, resources, and methods are available to support this?
In this course, you will "meet" individuals with different learning needs. You will learn how to support them in their studies, in concrete and simple ways. You will work practically on your own course to create a more accessible digital learning environment.
The purpose of the course is to develop understanding and practical skills to promote accessibility and inclusion in higher education.
