A warm welcome to the course Criminology BA (A), Criminological Theory I and as a student at Mid Sweden University.

This course in criminology is for international students but all lectures seminars, and exams will be held in english together with students in our bachelor program in criminology. The course starts with an introduction lecture on the 6th of October at 10.15 AM on campus in Sundsvall.

Utbildningsinformation
This is a full time course on campus in Sundsvall. Students are expected to attend lectures and seminars, otherwise students might miss important information regard the hall exam and the assignment report that is mandatory for receiving a passing grade. You will be studying theories regarding the causes and origin of crime, as well as theories that deal with how crime can be understood based on societal structures. The course will deal with central and fundamental theories of criminology, which includes both classical and modern theories and frameworks. During the course, the digital education platform Canvas will be an important tool for instructions and communication.
Keep in mind to get the obligatory course literature in time before the course starts. There may be a waiting period for course literature around the start of the course, so order it as soon as possible. The list for obligatory literature can be found in the course plan. Scientific articles in the list of obligatory literature can be downloaded free of charge via your student account on the MIUN university library website. The best way to prepare and get the most out of the course is to start reading when the course begins.
Get into the habit of checking your student e-mail and Canvas regularly. If you do this, you will keep track of whether new information or material has appeared that may be relevant to your learning.
Before you can begin your studies, there are three things you need to do
1. Create a student account
As a new student, you need to create a student account to get access to the university´s e-services, such as Ladok, where you can register for courses and examinations, see your study results, and access the University Library´s e-services, as well as the learning platform Canvas.
Please note that the earliest date to create your student account is 20 days before the beginning of the course (spring term) or 30 days before the begging of the course (autumn term).
If you have a Swedish personal identification number (format: yyyymmdd e.g., 198101201111) you can verify your identity using EduID. International students without a Swedish identity number must verify their identity using Antagning.se.

2. Read through the current syllabus
In the course syllabus, there is information about the course literature and other important things about the course for both teachers and students.
3. Register for your course
You must register for all of the courses you want to take during the semester. Register on Course: miun.se/registration
You can register no earlier than three workdays before the beginning of the course. It is important that you register for each course.
