Doctoral studies
Doctoral studies is the highest education you can study at a university or college. The programme prepares you for a continued career in academia or outside the university.
At Mid Sweden University, admission to doctoral studies is normally handled through an open recruitment process. Available doctoral positions are advertised publicly via work at the university/career.
Education at a doctoral level
The doctoral studies consists partly of doctoral courses, partly of a dissertation work. The studies concludes with either a licentiate degree or a doctoral degree. Anyone who has completed a third-cycle education with the equivalent of four years of full-time studies and an approved doctoral degree has received the highest possible educational degree in Sweden.

Licentiate degree
The licentiate degree comprises 120 credits, of which at least 60 credits must be a scientific thesis. The degree titles are Degree of Licentiate of Philosophy, Degree of Licentiate of Economics (in the subject of Business Administration) or Degree of Licentiate of Technology.
Phd
The doctoral degree comprises 240 credits, of which at least 120 credits must be a scientific thesis. The degree titles are Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Economics (in the subject of business administration) or Doctor of Technology.
