Course description and objective

Health Science is an interdisciplinary subject with multidisciplinary ambitions aiming to raise awareness of what health means and how health can be promoted, maintained, and regained. It also deals with ways to prevent illness and disease. Research within the area Health Science can be performed with a perspective on individual-, group- or societal levels.

The objective of this course is for the participant student to obtain knowledge about key concepts in Health Science research. Different theories will be discussed as to gain a holistic perspective on the concept of Health and research directions in Health Science.

The content of the course covers aspects on:

• Different concepts and definitions of health
• Health perspectives from an individual, group, and societal level
• Different theories in the concept of health.

Education

The course is fully web-based using the Moodle platform and in the English language.

The assignments in the course comprise literature studies, web-based discussions, lectures, and seminars.

Admission Requirements

Firsthand admission:
Students already admitted to postgraduate studies in Health Science or other related topics.

Secondly:
Those who have a permanent position at Mid Sweden University (or other affiliated university) can be invited to attend the course if there are open slots and in the event the requirement for general and specific jurisdiction for studies on research level is met and that the person participating is doing so within their employment.

Any accounting of the course can only be made after a future admission to postgraduate level.
