Crisis, Growth, and Renewal in a Time of Bewilderment
Scholars and policymakers are increasingly aware of a sense of entry into a new epoch, with terms like megacrisis, megadisaster, and polycrisis suggesting new forms of risk and intractable risk-management dilemmas. It is likely that characteristics of surprise and ambiguity will emerge even in heretofore familiar technological, environmental, and social systems. The theme of this conference is renewal: how the inhabitants of a time of connected and potentially accelerating crises can find sources of growth, enrichment, and rejuvenation. This presentation will suggest an exploration of bewilderment as a present state, the possibility of new and repurposed management approaches, and energetic nurturing of new networks and social capital.
