What is your background?
I earned my Ph.D. in Computer Engineering with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the University of Kashan in Iran. Following the successful completion of my doctoral studies, I embarked on an academic and research career that has spanned several notable institutions. From 2018 to 2020, I had the privilege of contributing to the academic community at the University of Tehran, Iran, as a teaching lecturer, where I honed my skills and shared my knowledge with students.
One of the significant milestones in my academic career was my appointment as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering at Hakim Sabzevari University in Iran. In this role, I had the opportunity to teach, mentor and guide students and AI enthusiasts, fostering their growth in this rapidly evolving field.
Expanding my horizons beyond Iran, I ventured into international research collaboration by joining the University of Beira Interior in Portugal as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. My tenure there was marked by active involvement in a prestigious European project called GreenStamp. Within this project, I dedicated myself to advancing AI-based sustainable practices and technologies tailored specifically for Android Apps, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future through innovative AI solutions.
In addition, during the pursuit of my Ph.D., I undertook an academic experience as a visiting student with a research group at Xian Jiaotong-Liverpool University, China. In this role, I focused on enhancing the performance of multi-objective optimization.
My current interests are firmly rooted in the vast realm of Artificial Intelligence, encompassing both its theoretical foundations and practical applications. My journey in the field began with a master's degree in Artificial Intelligence approximately 14 years ago. Over the years, I have explored diverse facets of AI, applying its principles and techniques to a wide array of domains. From agriculture through AI-driven solutions to optimizing software engineering processes, from leveraging machine vision for enhanced perception to enhancing text processing capabilities, and even delving into the realms of chemical and mechanical engineering, I have continuously sought to push the boundaries of what AI can achieve.
What are you going to do as a postdoc at Mid Sweden University?
In my current role, I bear the responsibility of harnessing and advancing the cutting-edge capabilities of Artificial Intelligence, with a specific focus on machine vision and machine learning techniques, to cater to the demands of industrial applications. I aim to make some insightful contributions to the field, improving the understanding and development of AI-based systems that can effectively impact on industry .
Why did you choose Mid Sweden University?
In fact, during that period, I received three acceptance offers from two different countries, with two of them being from institutions in Sweden. It was indeed a challenging decision to make, as each opportunity held its own appeal. However, after a thorough evaluation of the available projects, I found myself particularly drawn to the industrial projects. Furthermore, the prospect of working within this research center, STC, filled me with excitement and instilled in me the belief that I could shape a brighter future for myself from this point onward. In the end, I firmly believe that the initial impression I gained during the interviews should not be dismissed as having no influence on my final choice.
How has your time in Sundsvall been so far?
I commenced my university journey at the start of July, a time when the campus was sparsely populated. Nevertheless, I went to different parts of the city to explore it and taste different foods. I also made an effort to meet and interact with people from all backgrounds who lived in the city. Another thing that attracted me to the city was its unique nature that I had never seen anywhere else.
