Irina Dimitrova

Tell us about Irina Dimitrova.

I believe Irina Dimitrova is a versatile person. My interests encompass economics, psychology, and design. Marketing is the field that encompasses all three aspects. That's why I chose to deepen my knowledge in this area while working in the banking sector and later during my master's studies in business administration with a focus on marketing and management at Mittuniversitetet.

Why did you decide to pursue a Ph.D.?

Out of curiosity. I have worked in various sectors, from banking to the gaming industry, but a new role as a Ph.D. challenges me to further develop myself. The connection between practice and theory is what excites me. I am deeply impressed by how research results can change lives, and as a Ph.D. student and researcher, I also hope to contribute to that.

What is your research about?

My research focuses a lot on the cashless society, particularly the barriers and "barriers-breakers" related to digital payment methods. It's an exciting topic that is widely discussed today, and research findings in this area can lead to better relationships between banks and their customers.

How do you like being a Ph.D. student at Mittuniversitetet?

It's a dream job! Mittuniversitetet is a unique university for both students and staff. There is a positive atmosphere with colleagues who are passionate about research. It feels great to discuss and collaborate, just like the ancient Greek philosophers did. Being a Ph.D. student is not easy, but I have great support from my supervisors Peter Öhman and Darush Yazdanfar.

What has been the most enjoyable so far?

The opportunity to meet many different people at conferences and events, both nationally and internationally. It inspires and develops me not only professionally but also personally.

Dream scenario in terms of the job?

I am happy in my job as a Ph.D. student and researcher, so it would be fantastic to have the opportunity to continue my career in academia, particularly at Mittuniversitetet and CER.
