Research: Speed Keeping for Skiers Para World Cup Cross Country and Biathlon
We conduct research to create fair competitions in para skiing.
Para snow sports has just finished its World Championships in Lillehammer, Norway. Researchers at the National Winter Sports Centre, Craig Staunton, Gauthier Rispal and Marie Ohlsson, together with an international research team, have measured speed control and biomechanics for cross-country skiers and biathletes during the World Championships. We worked under the leadership of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
The goal is to understand para skiing even better based on performance factors and course profile linked to the type of disability. This is to create fairer competitions in the long run, support the skiers in their competition analysis and for the organizer in their choice of courses.
We wish all skiers good luck now that the World Cup starts in Östersund and Jämtland on Thursday 27 Jan.
