Amorphous metals
The project aims to produce so called amorphous metals by additive manufacturing. These types of metals have a durability that far exceeds most conventional metallic materials, such as high strength steel and titanium alloys.
Today, there are clear limitations regarding the manufacturability of these metals with conventional methods such as casting. Additive manufacturing has, however, proved to be a promising method for building more complex geometries than is possible today.
Within the project, various amorphous alloys will be tested using EBM, which will then be evaluated in order to lay a foundation for a more extensive research project. Results from the project are expected to show opportunities for reduced weight of parts for the transport sector and development of new alloys suitable for medical purposes such as implants.
