Attract, recruit and retain teachers in the Nordic green belt
The project deals with a problem that Sweden and Norway share; to attract, recruit and retain teachers and to attract teacher students . Teacher shortage is palpable in both countries and particularly large in sparsely populated/rural areas and in Sweden areas with socio-economically weak groups.
With this pilot project, we want to map different variables in the border municipalities and compare them. We want to get an overall picture of the situation (teacher shortage) for teachers in both regions to be able to see where the greatest recruitment needs are, and we also want to review various policy documents to find differences and similarities between the two countries. Planned activities are discussions with representatives in the border municipalities and mapping of the current and projected shortage of teachers. In parallel, a mapping of policy documents takes place in both countries to discover opportunities for validating different educations. Comparisons and analysis of the situation in both regions will lead to an overall picture of the situation. This will be the basis for a larger application with the intention of making the teaching staff attractive in both regions and facilitating a joint professional development of the school staff. We also want to review the possibilities of working as preschool teachers/teachers and developing their skills in both countries. We believe that opportunities for mobility across national borders are positive for recruiting, attracting and retaining teachers in the region. In a larger project, we also intend to include potential student teachers
