Cultural and creative industries – local and regional development perspectives
This purpose of this project is to study the cultural and creative industries and how this sector creates opportunities for regional and local development.
The cultural and creative industries have during later years been in focus for many cities and regions growth ambitions, from identity to economy dimensions and employment opportunities. The sector gathers a number of sub-categories, such as literature, music, and gastronomy. It also includes related business sectors which enable commercialization of goods and services from the sector. This project is funded by the cooperation agreement (“samverkansavtal”) between Östersund municipality and Mid-Sweden-University and will have Östersunds membership in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a central point of departure in studying how this bransch of the economy enables various dimensions of local and regional development. It will also investigate how the cultural and creative industries enables sustainable development, and how public policy may support the growth of the sector.
