Project description
Long-term problematic school absence is an escalating problem in Swedish schools, and guardians play a major role in preventive work. In this project, the Parents' Agency in Örnsköldsvik municipality is studied; thus, the guardians are in focus. The project has two purposes. One is to evaluate and develop the material and method for training parents/guardians of students who are absent from school, and the other is conducted at the Parents' Agency. At the Parents' Agency, sociologists and psychologists work together to provide broad expertise in family life and school. The second purpose is to collect and analyze empirical data from guardians of students who are absent from school and thereby contribute to their perspective on being guardians of children who are absent from school. The research will contribute knowledge about how school attendance promotion work can be conducted in the municipality in general and at the parents' office more specifically, and how the different functions and people involved can best utilize their different skills to create a sustainable and holistic operation with a focus on school attendance. One of the project's goals is to disseminate and share the working method and material to other regional and regional municipalities. Through empirical studies, we will produce and analyze empirical data about guardians' perceptions of school absence and disseminate the results internationally, nationally, regionally, and locally. The results will be published in scientific articles.
