Follow‑up Project – International Digital Guide Arena II
The International Digital Guide Arena project tests digital guidance for people with visual impairments in skiing and running. Results show the system is perceived as useful. Funding is now being sought to complete the project and implement training and certification.
The International Digital Guide Arena project aims to improve access to physical activity and sports for people with visual impairments through digital guidance technology. The system was tested during the 2023 Para Nordic World Championships in Östersund, with promising results – participants found it useful and expressed a wish for it to be available in their local areas.
The next phase of the project focuses on developing training and certification proposals to ensure the safe and effective use of the system. The project does not aim to resolve questions of ownership or management of the technology, but rather to establish the practical conditions needed for its implementation.
The goal is to enable more people to participate in sports and outdoor activities on equal terms. Östersund – and specifically the ski stadium – can serve as a model for other facilities interested in offering digital guidance. With structured training and potential certification for both facilities and users, the system can be introduced in a safe and inclusive way.
