Good business through good cooperation
In 2023 and 2024, Mid Sweden University collaborated with Torsta and Eldrimner in the project ‘Good business through good cooperation’.
The project aimed to contribute to the creation of new jobs in rural areas through new collaborations and with a particular focus on increasing value-added processes. It included, among other things, a food hackathon on the processing of residual flows where students from both the economics and eco-engineering programmes at Mid Sweden University participated in presenting innovative ideas. Through the project, Mid Sweden University students also participated in workshops on preparedness and attended guest lectures that included business coaching of rural businesses.
The project also included several study visits to and discussions with rural businesses in the county, where representatives of Mid Sweden University, Torsta and Eldrimner had the opportunity to learn about the challenges faced by fish farms and small-scale breweries, among others. In addition, the project was able to successfully collaborate with actors in other food projects at Mid Sweden University, including the Mid Sweden Craft Brewing Lab and the Kamprad Foundation-funded project Enhancing entrepreneurship in rural areas through local food systems.
For Mid Sweden University, the project has created a valuable foundation for knowledge development around entrepreneurship in rural areas and the university's further investment in food, as well as further collaboration between actors working with knowledge about the county's food systems.
